Called to Serve

Hello friends!

As you might have guessed, I'm going on a mission! I was called as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I want to share the Good News of this gospel and want people to feel of the love that our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ have for each one of their precious children.

So to start my story, my mom has always been one for surprises. She loves surprising us kids at birthdays and Christmas, but also with mission calls. For both my older brother and sister she surprised them by getting their calls from the mail secretly, then invited a bunch of people over to watch them open it. I didn't want this to happen to me, so on Christmas morning when my oldest sister popped out of a box I decided that it was her turn to be surprised.

She didn't know that I wanted to start my papers, I didn't tell her. But that was easy enough because I was away at school. But I basically told everyone besides my mom and my two nosy younger sisters but asked them to keep it secret and keep it safe. It just so happened that I was able to calculate the availability date so that I could work through the summer, but also hopefully receive my call by my birthday. And as luck would have it, it all worked out! Miracles do happen.

My dad got the call from the mailbox and we invited people over for my 'birthday'. My mom was in the kitchen dishing up all of the dessert so she was slightly distracted and I just kept welcoming people in. So when everyone finally gets to the house, my dad welcomes everyone and tells everyone that he has a surprise for me (even though I already knew what it was) and I opened the green bag he gives me and pull out a Scout handbook...he's funny. Then! I pulled out my envelope. I just hold it up while everyone is just looking at my mother. She had no clue, and she was pretty shocked, and I was just relieved that it actually worked! I've never really been able to pull something over on my mom, but today was literally my day. But slight side not, I actually had been praying that this little surprise shindig would work, and lo and behold it did! Miracles do happen!

So I was called to serve in the Indiana, Indianapolis mission and I leave Sept. 9th (English speaking, thank goodness).

I really am super excited to go, and scared and all the emotions that I'm sure every pre-missionary feels right before they enter the MTC, but I know that if I go in faith and trust in the Lord, that he will make up my weaknesses and he will make me an instrument in his hands.

Pray for me friends, because I'm sure I'm going to need it.

Loves and hugs!
